Thank you very much for all your interest in the GABBA Annual Symposium!
Scientific discoveries and creations have the potential to solve today’s major civilizational issues and significantly raise the standard of living for every human on the planet. Many recent innovations have shed some light on fundamental questions about life and the human condition. Some of the resulting developments may constitute highly desirable or near perfect solutions, leading to the notion that science can support the creation of a quasi-utopian society. Nevertheless, their implementation, scope and consequences often remain to be proven.
With this in mind, we invited a set of renowned scientists to present their work during the GABBA Annual Symposium on the 24th of July, 2015, a one-day science meeting organized by the first-year students of the Graduate Program in Areas of Basic and Applied Biology of the University of Porto.
The symposium will be focused on scientific discoveries that might contribute to turn utopias into foreseeable reality. We want to expose the audience to recent achievements, innovations and advances in areas of Biology and challenge them to reflect and discuss on how such breakthroughs can influence and shape our Society. Furthermore, at the end of the day, participants and speakers will be challenged to join a debate on the contribution of Science to social progress, its benefits and risks, what should constitute a priority, and the role of society in the discussion of scientific advances and their potential to change the way we live.
We are very pleased to invite you to join us in the discussion!
